Thanks Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.--Wish You Were Here Today

1929-1968

On this day, that commemorates the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr. I wonder what he would be doing if he were here today.

Would he be sitting quietly in retirement, would he have earned a comfortable life, would he still be speaking at events, or would he be still combating injustice?

My guess is a combination of these things- I imagine he would have written many books,MBA a prominent member of a university, and have achieved even more than we celebrate today.

In my early years of combating trafficking,I had wished I knew what words he would use to gain understanding and empathy for prostituted victims. Then, like a gift from the past, I read his thoughts on prostitution and the force and coercion used -- he knew what exploitation was before it had laws and a name to combat it-- I then realized while he was stolen from the world and we will not actually hear or read his words about current issues, we do know what he would say.

A great leader can lead even when his / her presence is not accessible. A strong and lasting leader has educated and taught so that he / she does not need to instruct each issue or task- just their essence is leadership --

Thanks Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - wish you were here, however your leadership lives-- today and everyday-
